Field Service Engineer

Working on Generators and Diesel Engines 

Mechanical and Electrical - Install, Service and Maintain

Mostly covering the North (Midlands upwards)

Up to £29k per annum

Van, Tools and Fuel Card provided

This is an exciting career move to join an innovative industry leader. This role will cover the North of the UK, including Birmingham, Leicester, Nottingham, Manchester, Liverpool, Sheffield, Leeds, Newcastle, Sunderland, Glasgow and Edinburgh, however, you may be required to cover the South occasionally.

 

Duties Include:

- Maintain equipment and look after customers in various regions of the UK

- Respond to calls out to equipment across the north of the UK

- Attend sites to complete handover of equipment and to help set up

- Service equipment in line with the planned service schedule

- Tow equipment to / from site as required

- Maintain a PPM schedule on tower light and Off Grid solar power fleet on customer sites

- Mechanical and Electrical works

- 40 hours standard per week

- Callout rota of 1 week in 4 (on average)

 

Skills & Experience Required:

- Electrical and Mechanical Fitter with Field Service experience

- City & Guilds / NVQ level3 in mechanical/ auto electrical engineering qualification

- Clean current driving license with the ability to tow (B E/ C E)

- Diesel engine & single-phase generator/ inverter experience

- Able to manage own workload & report to the operations manager & portal surveyor

- Must be flexible & be prepared to travel/ stay away as business dictates

- As the customer interface of the Company a smart and tidy appearance with a confident and approachable manner are essential

- A driven individual with outstanding communication skills who is used to working alone and being able to prioritise their own time

- You should be able to think on your feet and adapt to different circumstances, resolving issues through experience and versatility

- A good general background in mechanical and electrical fault finding and fixing is required although training on the companies industry leading equipment will be given

 

The below are desirable but not essential requirements:

- Hybrid generator experience

- LOLER or LEEA lifting qualification

- CSCS card holder

- Rail &/or Civils’ site experience

- First aid qualification

- PAT testing

- Asbestos awareness

Field Engineer - Electrical

The Role

Due to continued growth of the business, my client has a need for an additional Field Engineer to join their existing team. You will lead specialty field testing projects/campaigns for High Voltage & Medium Voltage (MV) assets in generation plants, utility distribution, and industrial environments. The role will consist of the assessment of underground distribution class cables, advanced diagnostics of medium and high voltage switchgear transformers.

The Company
My client is a Worldwide Company that provides lifecycle management services for the electricity industry. Their expertise in engineering, testing and inspection is trusted by their Worldwide client base. They employ over 1000 engineers and technical experts.
Responsibilities

  • To provide engineering field and office support for transmission class underground cable systems
  • Perform high voltage electrical testing and diagnosis on transmission class cable systems
  • Perform other low voltage testing, inspection and engineering services in the field and lab environments
  • Conduct and manage products
  • Coordinate equipment maintenance, inventory and transport of test equipment to and from job-site.
  • Develop technical work instructions, collect test data and write technical test reports
The Right Person
The successful Test Engineer will be educated to degree level or studying Electrical Engineering towards a bachelors degree as well as having a minimum of 3 years hands-on experience in the discipline of various substation equipment services. You will also have knowledge in the following areas:
  • HV Withstand Testing
  • Partial Discharge Testing
  • Over Sheath Testing
  • Cable Conductor Resistance
  • Sequence Impedance Measurement
  • Power, transmission and distribution systems
  • Electrical prints, schematics and single-line diagrams
  • Substation components e.g. transformers, circuit breakers, fuses, arresters, switches, automation, insulated power cables, overhead line conductors and insulators
  • Metering instrumentation hardware and software
  • Substation equipment and their functions
  • Electrical hazards, limits of approach and working near live equipment
  • Experience in advanced electrical testing is preferred
