Our established client specialises in manufacturing machined components for the automotive industry. They are currently looking for a new Machining Process Engineer to join their established manufacturing team in Coventry. Commutable from Nuneaton, Warwick, Rugby, Leamington Spa and Hinckley.
The role missing is to engineer and put in place production processes, in line with the company and customer requirements. To work with the Operations Manager to test, validate and apply new machining process technologies and best practices aimed to improve effectiveness and efficiency. To ensure all standards are maintained and to guarantee all operatives work in an organised, efficient and safe manner. Being a promoter and booster of the systematic improvement of the supervised production process performances.
Key Responsibilities - Machining Process Engineer
Develop CNC programs, define and procure the proper machining tools, ensuring products can be machined to customer specifications
Ensure that the Maintenance Plan for production equipment is defined and applied, coordinating the external suppliers and monitoring the maintenance activities performed by the machine operators.
Be an active part in the daily management of the production process, including the 5S program, overseeing the production of goods, assuring the company’s efficient and effective production, and the achievement of the quality targets, in the respect of all the safety rules.
Survey the workers’ performances, attitude, awareness, potentiality, expectations, and work conditions (process layout, supplied instructions, work place ergonomics, shared information) and identify any potential issues with the workers that can compromise safety, effectiveness, efficiency and quality.
Promote a bottom-up communication to support the workers to be proactive in introducing improvement opportunities and to report experienced issues.
Identify the root cause for the identified potential issues and to define proper corrective and improvement actions, as well as to define actions to welcome the identified improvement opportunities, and to introduce them in a structured way
Monitor, analyse and report the current production performances. In case of work overload, support your team by taking charge of day-to-day activities.
Maintain the defined best workflow at the production line, based on a lean production approach.
Experience in setting up and improving CNC manufacturing processes, preferably within the automotive industry
Experienced in using SOLIDWORKS Premium along with SOLIDCAM Mill 2.5d and SOLIDCAM Turn, working from 2d drawings and 3d models
Machining cycle concept development and machining process parameters definition
CNC Machine Programming
Knowledge of Fanuc 0i-21MB control systems
Knowledge of tool holders, cutting tools, boring bars, fixtures, inserts and other accessories used on various machines
Lean production organisation knowledge (maintain value flow without interruptions, with the defined optimised process steps sequence, applying the defined process layout aimed to minimise movements and buffers, minimise the applied resources, including human resources, and reduce the process cycle time)
KPI management aimed to guarantee process effectiveness and efficiency
5S program and best practices knowledge
Knowledge of precision measuring instruments and the application of such instruments
Must be adaptable to a changing work environment, competing demands, and be able to deal with frequent changes, delays or unexpected events.
