Job Role: Business Development Manager Salary:£40,000-£50,000 Location: Leicester
We are working with a fast-growing energy consultancy client to recruit an experienced Business Development Manager to support the next phase of their commercial growth. This is an excellent opportunity for a driven, consultative sales professional to take ownership of winning and developing high-value business customers, while being supported by an established internal operations and administration team.
The Role As Business Development Manager, you will play a key role in driving new business acquisition while also managing and developing a portfolio of existing clients. You'll be responsible for identifying opportunities, closing deals, and building long-term relationships within the commercial energy and utilities space. You'll have full ownership of your accounts and sales pipeline, with strong internal support handling onboarding, reporting, and day-to-day administration—allowing you to focus on growth, relationship management, and revenue generation.
Key Responsibilities New Business Development
Proactively identify, target, and secure new business customers
Build and manage a structured sales pipeline through outreach, networking, and referrals
Lead consultative sales conversations, offering tailored energy and utility solutions
Negotiate and close new business opportunities
Account Management
Manage and grow a portfolio of existing clients, focusing on retention and upsell opportunities
Act as the primary point of contact and trusted advisor
Deliver regular client reviews and reporting, demonstrating value through savings and efficiency
Commercial & Operational Oversight
Conduct Meter Operator and kVA reviews for new clients
Oversee Data Collector appointments and ensure accurate data integration
Collaborate with internal admin teams to ensure smooth onboarding, reporting, invoice validation, and supplier queries
Maintain accurate CRM records and ensure compliance with quality standards
About You
This role would suit someone who:
Has proven experience in energy sales or business development
Is confident in generating new business and managing a personal sales pipeline
Has experience managing medium to large commercial energy portfolios
Demonstrates strong communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills
Is commercially astute, organised, and self-motivated
Thrives in a fast-paced, target-driven environment
Has strong IT and CRM skills
Holds a full UK driving licence and is comfortable with client visits
