My client is a well-established, privately owned engineering and manufacturing business based within commutable distance of Leicestershire. They are currently looking to recruit a Product Development Engineer to support the design, development, and delivery of new and existing products.
 
The Role:

As a Product Development Engineer, you will provide engineered design solutions for both new and existing products, working closely with manufacturing, projects, and sales teams.

Key responsibilities of the Product Development Engineer include:

• Innovative product design using SolidWorks from design specifications
• Producing detailed manufacturing, fabrication, and assembly drawings from 3D models
• Creating and managing BOMs (Bills of Materials) within the ERP system (Jobscope)
• Producing product technical specifications and supporting documentation, including H&S and operating manuals
• Ensuring all designs are fit for purpose, value engineered, and compliant with statutory and Health & Safety requirements
• Maintaining drawing and parts databases with correct revision control
• Challenging existing designs and manufacturing methods
• Working closely with Manufacturing, Project Engineers, and Sales to ensure designs meet business and customer requirements
• Seeing products through from design to commissioning, with a hands-on approach
• Acting as a facilitator for standalone product orders, liaising with internal departments and clients

 
Minimum Skills / Experience Required:

• Proven experience as a Product Development Engineer / Design Engineer
• Essential experience in sheet metal and fabricated product design
• Proficient in SolidWorks (sheet metal and weldments)
• Experience using AutoCAD 2D
• Ability to produce fabrication, assembly, and manufacturing drawings
• Experience creating and managing BOMs
• HNC (or equivalent) in Mechanical / Manufacturing Engineering
• Basic knowledge of electrical engineering (desirable)
• Experience in special-purpose machinery design (desirable)
