My client is an established engineering firm based in Cheddar and commutable from Draycott, Axbridge, Wedmore, Badgworth and Winscombe. They are currently looking for a skilled Manual Machinist / Fitter to join their team.
The Role: Machinist Fitter - Operating manual lathes and mills to fabricate and repair components for electric motors, pumps, gearboxes, and fans - Collaborating with engineers to diagnose issues and determine repair strategies for various mechanical systems - The role will also require a degree of welding and general engineering - Ensuring precision and quality in machining tasks to meet specified tolerances and standards - Adhering to safety protocols and maintaining a clean and organised workshop environment - Participating in training programs to develop skills in CNC machining, as the company provides training in this area - Review samples, drawings or instructions to understand specifications of output - Plan the sequence of necessary actions for the completion of a job - Be available for call-out and overtime. - Perform any other duties within your capabilities as directed by the Workshop Manager
Minimum Skills / Experience Required: Manual Miller / Manual Turner - Time-served engineer with a proven record of manual/conventional turning, milling, and general machining, together with proven mechanical fitting skills - Additional experience with CNC and XYZ machines would be an advantage, but is not essential; training will be provided - The ability to use CAD/Solidworks package would be an advantage - The role will also require a degree of welding and general engineering - Experience in using manual, semi-automated or automated tools and machines (lathes, grinders etc) - Experience with welding and balancing would be beneficial - Reading Technical Drawings: Ability to interpret engineering drawings to manufacture or repair components to specification - Machining to Fine Tolerances - Experience with using measuring tools (e.g., micrometers, callipers) to ensure accuracy and quality - CNC Experience (Desirable but Not Essential): Some knowledge of CNC machining is beneficial, especially if they aim to transition into CNC roles (training provided) - Workshop Safety Practices: Knowledge of and adherence to health and safety standards in an engineering environment
The Package: Manual Machinist - Base Salary up to £33k per annum - Day shifts 8am-5pm Mon-Fri 40-hour week - Additional on-call bonuses and enhanced overtime rates - Company vehicle provided for on-call jobs - Private Healthcare - 28 days holiday - Pension scheme - Progression Opportunities
