Mechanical Design Engineer

The Role: Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

My client are looking to recruit a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the mechanical design and development capability within project teams working on new automation and materials handling projects, liaising with customers, suppliers and subcontractors. Participating in, and leading if appropriate, cross-functional design and development project teams, contributing to the overall delivery of the teams.

Responsibilities

  • Taking the lead for the mechanical design aspects of a project that includes techniques for low volume production; ie milling, turning, fabricated frameworks, sheet metal fabrication etc.

  • Creation of technical documentation

  • Mechanical fault finding and root cause analysis for design verification and debugging.

  • Create 3D CAD (SolidWorks) drawings as well as 2D AutoCAD layout drawings from 3D and knowledge of related drawing control systems for mechanical assemblies and parts.

  • Chair formal DFMA sessions for mechanical assemblies at key stages of the project and issue follow up actions and reports.

The Right Person

You will be able to demonstrate a good level of knowledge in the design of pneumatic systems and a basic understanding of hydraulic systems, as well as expertise in the design of small mechanisms using motors, pneumatics, or other electrical actuators and defining test specifications. Experience in testing/verification of designs is also an advantage. You will also possess the following:

  • A relevant engineering degree, mechanical engineering preferred

  • Minimum of 7 years post qualification mechanical design engineering experience

  • Significant hands on exposure to the design of electro-mechanical systems in an industrial, automotive or aerospace environment

The Role: Project Engineer

My client are looking to recruit a Junior Project Engineer to be responsible for providing application specific support to the Sales Team within the Automation and Materials Handling area of the business. You will be operating between sales and engineering, gathering / reviewing information about client specific requirements, developing concepts, designs, costings and producing detailed technical proposals/bids. You will also spend time working with suppliers & industry specialists, testing customer samples with state of the art equipment while investigating different alternatives.

  • Production of detailed manufacturing drawings using SolidWorks

  • Producing bills of material

The Right Person

The successful Project Engineer will have completed a Bachelors or Masters degree in Engineering, preferably Mechanical but Electrical will be acceptable as well as the following:-

  • A good working knowledge of 2D /3D CAD, particularly SolidWorks

  • Strong communication skills and the desire and enthusiasm to learn about presenting, negotiating and selling a product
