The Company

The successful Lapping Precision Machinist will be working for an employer who:
is a leading metrology company with an impressive client base
operate a technically advanced calibration laboratory with niche equipment

The Role

This challenging Lapping Precision Machinist role is to ensure the timely and efficient production of gauges and provision of lapping services. Main responsibilities will include:
To become skilled in lapping processes and company proprietary manufacturing techniques.
Interpret technical drawings to ascertain production requirements
Present updates at production meetings
Plan workloads
Ensure personal output targets are met
Monitor quality of work and that procedures are being followed
Operate in a tidy, safe and efficient manner
Liaise with the Office Manager and Laboratory Manager on delivery time scales.
Explore the technical development and improvement of existing techniques and exploring new techniques and methods of production with the help of others as required.

The Candidate

As the successful Lapping Precision Machinist you will ideally have previous Lapping experience and an engineering qualification; the ability to read engineering drawings and research new production methods would also be advantageous. Our client would also be happy to train a time served Toolmaker or Manual Grinder that is looking for a new challenge!

This is a great opportunity for a Quality Engineer in Northampton which is commutable from Market Harborough, Kettering, Corby, Rugby, Wellingborough, Bedford, Daventry, Milton Keynes, Banbury, Huntingdon.
Paying approx £25,000 - £30,000 depending on experience.

This varied, challenging Quality Engineer role will include accurate recording of inspection data; communication with customers and suppliers; creating quality alerts, processing instructions, control plans and audits against standard operating procedures; material traceability and allocation; ensuring safe working at all times using PPE as directed; and helping to ensure workplace meets 6S standards.

About you:

As the successful Quality Engineer you should be able to understand engineering drawings and specifications; have a minimum of 12 - 18 months Quality Engineer experience; and have experience of 8D, control plans, APQP and PFMEA's. You will have the ability to communicate at all levels and a positive flexible attitude; you should be able to work on your own initiative and fit into a small team.

The Role

This challenging Dimensional Calibration Engineer role will involve calibrating mechanical measuring instrumentation in line with industry standards. You will be calibrating instruments such as Micrometers, Verniers and Gauges so strong attention to detail is essential; you will also be reading engineering drawings. This role also comes with a very real opportunity for progression to Head of Lab if you would be interested in moving into more of a potential management role

The Candidate

As the successful Dimensional Calibration Engineer you must have experience of calibrating mechanical measuring instrumentation, ideally in a laboratory environment, to in-house or national standards.
It is essential that you have experience of calibrating instruments such as Micrometers, Verniers and Gauges
You need to have good mechanical engineering knowledge and should ideally be apprentice trained or time served as a Mechanical Calibration Engineer.
It would also be highly desirable for you to have experience of calibrating to UKAS standards - but not essential.
