The Company

The Materials Engineer will undertake forensic investigation of a wide range of incidents and accidents involving the engineering failure of components of all types in a wide range of applications. Consequently, you will encounter a variety of failure modes and mechanisms involving both metallic and non-metallic materials. The Materials Engineer position is a technically demanding, challenging and most rewarding role requiring not only a thorough understanding of the nature and behaviour of both metallic and non metallic materials but also a strong engineering knowledge base. They discuss new instructions on technical situations and undertake site visits, to provide reliable, well-researched reports and to serve as expert witnesses.

Ideally you will;

  • Have attained a good honours degree in a materials engineering related discipline.
  • Have gained several years of postgraduate experience, preferably in an industrial engineering environment.
  • Have an aptitude and enthusiasm for problem solving.
  • Be self-motivated and be able to work effectively under pressure.
  • Have experience of undertaking component failure investigations, which will have included conducting scene inspections in addition to undertaking fractographic and materialographic examinations within a laboratory.
  • Have a practical engineering ability in addition to a strong academic record.
  • Have the ability to communicate technical concepts clearly, both verbally and in writing, to others less informed than yourself.
  • Be prepared to work unpredictable hours, as and where the work demands.
  • Be prepared to provide expert witness evidence in Court when required.
  • Training and Prospects
  • Comprehensive “on-the-job” type training in the conduct of forensic investigation and the preparation of reports for our insurance and legal clients will mostly be provided in-house and will be supplemented on occasion by external courses. You will also be a self driven individual who has a strong interest in forensic investigation of a wide range of engineering incidents and accidents.

A fast-growing 3PL Distribution business are seeking a Regional Logistics Planning Manager based across the Manchester area. Reporting into the Operations Director for the division, this role would suit an analytical, strategic and customer facing Logistics Planning/Contracts Manager who is able to work hand-in-hand with a blue chip client at their facility to deliver operational excellence, efficiencies and performance.


  • Management across two sites based in the Greater Manchester area.
  • Management responsibility for a team of 5 Managers, 12 Supervisors/Support staff , 20 vehicles and 35 drivers across the two sites.
  • Reviewing the production schedule of the client to ensure 3PL transport & network operations match their requirements.
  • Influencing of the client about the impact of production schedules to the 3PL business and making sure the 'Planned vs Actuals' are more aligned than currently.
  • Creation, implementation and ensuring the continuation of 'added value' activities to ensure the long-term viability of the partnership between the 3PL and the client.
  • Optimisation of trailer use & fill.
  • Engagement, Coaching and Mentoring of your team.
  • Implementation and maintenance of high performance standards.
  • Operational Improvement projects.
  • A lot of Continuous Improvement and Process Improvement projects.
  • Change Management.


  • Logical thinking logistics management professional, ideally with experience within the 3PL Logistics or Production Logistics arena.
  • Overall management responsibility for at least 15 heads or more.
  • Multi-site Logistics Planning/Network management experience.
  • This person has to be able to develop and implement strategy.
  • Experience of dealing with a demanding blue-chip client and delivering strong Customer Service through your teams.
  • Pro-Active mindset.

  • Day to day customer facing professional.
  • Closed Book 3PL experience is an advantage.

The Role
