Principal Engineer (Wind)

Are you a Structural Engineer, looking for a role which will allow you to be more commercial, and project management focused?

If so, this is a great opportunity for you to work for a global research company, who due to the incumbent retiring, is now looking to add top talent to their team within the Wind division.

As the Principal Engineer (Wind Engineering) you will be responsible for driving the team forward, in a project management manner.

Located in London (North West) salary is up to £60,000 depending on experience.

  • Business development, building up relationships with new and existing clients

  • Client liaison from tender to final reporting stage

  • Attending client meetings when required around the UK (20%-30%)

  • Performing technical work by post-processing and interpreting wind tunnel and modelling data

  • Project and staff management

  • Supervising win tunnel model design and build activities on projects and on-site

The Candidate

As the successful Principal Engineer, you are likely to have significant experience in the following

  • Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering

  • Previous management experience (3 years minimum)

  • Proven background in business development, and winning new business within the sector

  • Expert knowledge in Wind Engineering, including; Building aerodynamics, wind micro climate, wind loading and wind tunnel testing

  • Building & Structural engineering knowledge

The Role:

To ensure that the lift service is executed efficiently on various sites on your assigned route whilst providing a high quality of customer service. Attend all service visits within contractual time frames, ensuring that all minor repairs are carried out in a professional, competent and timely manner. To take responsibility for any paired mate to instruct on a technical level, maintain and Health & Safety best practices. The basic salary you start on will depend on experience if you are keen to study your NVQ 4 qualification this company will fully support this career development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Advise the Service Manager of daily activities & keep them updated with current field-based issues.

  • Liaise with on-site lift inspectors on all ongoing job-related matters including technical issues and outstanding works.

  • Carry out minor lift repairs when required to do so.

  • Demonstrate fault finding skills and knowledge of various types of lift equipment.

  • Provide completed lift service with a minimum number of callbacks.

  • Follow lift manuals and diagrams accurately when necessary.

  • Adhere to quality assurance; health and safety and environmental standards

  • Be able to maintain and balance the accuracy of lift services.

The Candidate:

  • NVQ 3 or equivalent in Lift Engineering

  • Minimum of 5 years experience of working on a variety of lift equipment.

  • Possess practical skills preferably from a lift engineering background

  • Ability to follow lift manuals and diagrams and to adhere to health and safety requirements

  • Confidence to professionally handle sensitive situations

  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with a variety of people, able to work under pressure with honesty and integrity

The Role:

If you are a qualified Lift Engineer to work within a Major Works Division. Ideally based a commutable distance from London (although other locations outside of London will be considered), you will be expected to go to where the work is.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Carry out lift modernisation work minor or major you will be considered

  • Control own jobs including the planning of project work

  • Work efficiently and in a safe manner in accordance with all Health and Safety guidelines.

  • Liaise directly with the customer whilst on site and build a good working relationship

  • In-depth knowledge of passenger lifts is essential

  • Demonstrate that you can apply lift engineering principles to installation and modernisation

  • Capable of ripping out a lift down to the guide rails then installing new drives, gears, control panels

  • Minimum of 2 years experience working on passenger lifts

  • Possess practical skills preferably from a lift engineering background
