Our established engineering client are currently recruiting for a skilled Metallurgist with Heat Treatment or Forging experience. This is an exciting career move with strong progression opportunities, based in the Halesowen area. Also commutable from Stourbridge, Dudley, Birmingham and Smethwick.

Duties Include:

- Technical control of Forge and Heat Treatment facilities

- Material selection to optimise mechanical properties also provide technical support to commercial and production teams on material selection

- Carry out technical contract reviews for new orders in a timely manner

- Provide technical support to production teams through creation of heat treatment data cards, forging MOMs

- Provide Process Control and technical advice to ensure metallurgical control to specifications of all forging operations

- Material Process Guides - create, update and improve by matching processing parameters with final mechanical properties. Build a metallographic database linking structures, processing parameters and mechanical properties

- Implement and maintain new data gathering tools including furnace controls to adhere to AMS2750E to enable more accurate recoveries, improved process control and more detailed material failure analysis

- Provide technical support to commercial and production teams on material selection

- Assist in investigations of quality/non-conformance issues

- Provide technical input in R&D activities

Duties Include:

- To carry out NDT inspections using Ultrasonic Testing (UT) Forgings, Magnetic Particle

Inspection (MPI) both black ink and fluorescent, and Dye Penetrant Inspection (DPI) both visual and fluorescent

- Complete UT equipment daily checks in accordance with SOP's

- DPI and MPI checks in accordance with relevant specifications before carrying out

inspection

- Carry out NDT inspection as required by operations to relevant specifications, at locations both internal and sub-contractor facilities, to relevant specifications and procedures

- Report all defective components firstly to NDT Supervisor

- Raise NDT certificate for jobs that requires certification according to specific technique or relevant specification (Customer and International) on system file

- Report any surface cracking/forge defects that can be removed by light dressing

- Carry out spark testing on epoxy coatings as instructed by NDT supervisor

- Assist in internal and external audits relevant to NDT

Minimum Skills / Experience Required:

- NDT inspections using Ultrasonic Testing (UT)

- UT, MPI and DPI experience required

- PCN Level 2 essential

- Aerospace or other precision engineering industry experience within a Non-Destructive Testing role

- Fully conversant with technical drawings

- Demonstrate positive attitude at all times
