The business is set for continued success and growth, with a full order book, making this a great opportunity for the right individuals.  As the business grows there will be opportunities to progress and develop into operations roles and training of others. They are currently looking for a Trainee Field Engineer to join their growing team.
Role commutable from Derby, Little Eaton, Nottingham, Loughborough and surrounding areas.

The Role

  • To carry out Structural Testing and Analysis of Lighting Columns throughout the UK. 
  • This work is carried out for local councils, highways and the rail network.
  • Undertaking the testing of lampposts using machinery and test equipment (training will be provided)
  • Expensed overnight stays (Monday to Thursday) with an early return Friday.
  • Working in small teams (typically 2)
  • Cleaning, checking and loading test equipment and vehicles
  • Early starts and driving to test location on a Monday morning
  • Setting up and liaising with contractors and clients on-site
  • Working in a safe manner based on the location (H&S training will be provided)  
  • Operating machinery (Digger/cherry picker type arms)
  • Reporting and record keeping (Training will be provided)
  • Ensuring the security of machinery, vehicles and test equipment
  • Occasional nights / weekend work is required.

Minimum Skills / Experience Required:
  • MUST hold a full, clean UK driving licence (class B E desirable but not essential)
  • Have previous experience of operating machinery such as a cherry picker, digger, JCB, scissor lift or forklift
  • Basic hands-on experience of mechanical repairs such as vehicle mechanics or machine maintenance 
  • Happy to stay away from home Monday-Thursday night on a weekly basis
  • Be good at planning, reliable & well organised
  • Happy to be working in all weather conditions
  • Live within 30 minute commute of Derby DE24
  • Be PC literate – able to use a computer to create simple reports
  • Be willing to start early when the role requires
  • Have a strong work ethic and commitment

The Role of Field Service Engineer:

  • Develop & maintain working relationships with current customers  
  • Communicate daily with line manager, providing detailed reports  
  • Carry out and maintain service stock  
  • Upload of daily work sheets to database, providing details of further work to be carried out
  • Travel throughout the UK & Southern Ireland when required (with notice) to support customers
  • Maximizing the customer satisfaction and the customer loyalty is the main Service target, while being a profit center with budget targets
  • Commissionning the new equipment
  • Managing the warranty claims
  • Fixing equipment breakdowns in a minimum lead time
  • Carrying preventive maintenance
  • Selling and distributing spare parts
  • Training customers on road maintenance technics, the use of the equipments or the diagnostic and the maintenance of the equipments
  • Managing the renting of equipment
  • Providing after-sales service (hotline, technical support, escalation process)
  • To take control of the customer contact, by becoming the customer request entry point,
  • To support customers by phone or on site, by providing a first level of technical assistance for troubleshooting
  • To track and follow-up incoming request for service
  • To provide technical support and instructions to service providers and field service engineers, with the assistance of the HQ after sale organisation

Minimum Skills / Experience Required:
  • Previous experience of working in a field-based position liaising directly with customers
  • Knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems on agricultural/plant/material handling machinery or similar
  • Ability to fault-find on single phase electric and electronic systems
  • Willing to travel and stay away from home  
  • Ability to work & communicate professionally at customers premises
  • Full clean UK driving licence

The Role
As the company's Operations Director you will lead the technical improvements and plant efficiency of material processing equipment in a well established metals and recycling business. In an environment where small improvements can yield high efficiencies, it gives you the opportunity to lead and demonstrate the ability to look at system problem solving, not just responding to effect. Using plant key operating parameters you will lead the maintenance and production processes to be able to optimise performance.
To be successful in this role you will be: 

  • Highly proficient in production engineering environments with high material volumes
  • Experienced in driving the Production Managers through data to make informed decisions for production efficiencies on plant performance
  • Leads the Maintenance Manager for availability and continuity of plant performance
  • Understands materials processing and the levers for efficiency
  • Proven ability to work on small gains for overall quality of process
  • Demonstrable leadership skills, holding people accountable up and down to achieve projects with a say/do mentality.

  • A mechanical, process or production engineering background
