Chief Engineer

The Role: Chief Engineer - Mechanical

You will be responsible for initiating and taking concepts to production. Responsible for coordination of a multi-site mechanical engineering team of engineers and technicians across various projects. Supporting electrical development, prototype and research teams / functions within the engineering group.

Responsibilities

Reporting directly to the Head of Engineering, you will have the following key responsibilities:-

  • Management of the mechanical engineering teams day to day activities to develop safe, efficient and effective products that meet aggressive cost and performance targets.

  • Planning and management of engineering projects from concept through launch and across the life of the product

  • Coordination and management of the entire mechanical engineering teams activities to ensure project delivery

  • Strategically plan and budget for the departments activities to ensure ongoing compliance and capability growth

  • Support the sales, operations and quality teams to ensure world class manufacturing

  • Design of new products using SolidWorks CAD software and FEA package

  • Use of advanced CAE tools such as CFD and structural optimisation software

The Right Person

The successful Chief Engineer will have performed all of the above duties within an Automotive environment, a minimum of 5 years experience of managing a team as well as the following skills and experience:-

  • Minimum 2:1 degree or equivalent in mechanical, mechatronic or similar discipline

  • Minimum of 7 years mechanical engineering / mechatronics experience

  • Driven by problem solving, often from first principles engineering, with an eye for detail and a proven talent for meeting deadlines

  • Comfortable with product development requiring electrical and control systems interfaces

  • A skilled user of CAD software with a good understanding of FEA

  • A strong background in product launch through an APQP type process using project planning, DFM, FMEA, Control Plans and DVP&R

Desirable Skills

  • Experience of working in the Motorsport industry

  • Practical experience in precision manufacturing processes (casting, forging, machining, plating, finishing)

  • Working understanding of electrical control systems (open and closed loop control), their functions and calibration.

You will be responsible for providing complete quality support to the company. supporting all aspects of inspection and production and troubleshoot issues. Working with internal teams to increase customer satisfaction by improving the quality of the products, minimising customer complaints.

Reporting directly to the Quality Systems Manager, you will have the following key responsibilities:-

  • Prepare quality documentation and reports by collecting, analysing and summarising data, making recommendations as required.

  • Use 8D structured problem solving to identify the root of technical and manufacturing issues, ensuring issues are resolved promptly and lessons are learnt to prevent reoccurence

  • Participate in problem solving and root-cause analysis

  • Review/approve PPAP submissions and maintain documentation in an organised manner

  • Comply with and Audit all ISO9001/TS16949, ISO14001 (Environmental) and OHSA (Health & Safety) systems and standards

  • Carry out internal and supplier audits

  • Extensive experience in working with CMM, PC-DMIS

  • ISO 9001 / IATF (TS) 16949 Standard, ISO 14001

Quality Engineer

Our established Aerospace Manufacturing client is currently looking for a Senior Quality Engineer to join their team and ensure that they maintain their Quality Management System in line with the requirements of the relevant customers and stakeholders.

Duties and Responsibilities:

- To supervise the Quality Team to ensure the following:

  • All Company guidelines and rules are observed.

  • The Quality Team receives adequate training and experience to undertake their duties satisfactorily, and that their training records are kept up to date.

  • The Technical Records Library is maintained in accordance with the requirements of the authorities and customers.

  • The Nonconformance System is maintained in accordance with the requirements of the authorities and customers.

  • The Audit System for internal processes and external suppliers and subcontractors is maintained in accordance with the requirements of the relevant authorities and customers.

  • Monthly reports for customer returns, rework, scrap, quality improvements and nonconformity's are produced.

- To undertake the following duties as required:

  • Develop the Quality Management System to satisfy the requirements of the relevant authorities and customers.

  • Work to regulations, customer requirements and specifications to ensure that the company is capable of undertaking approved repairs.

  • Ensure at all times that the company satisfies regulations and customer requirements, and that these are actively controlled.

  • Monitor customer complaints and contribute to the investigation of the complaint and the closing out of the complaint with the customer.

  • Take part in third party audits carried out by the relevant authorities and customers, and respond to their finding and carry out corrective actions.

  • Liaise with all levels of company employees, customers, OEM, Subcontractors and Suppliers, where required.

  • Contribute to production, when requested, to ensure compliance with the relevant regulations in the processing of aerospace components through repair and overhaul.

  • Carry out internal audits to ensure continued compliance with established procedures, Carry out external audits of subcontractors and suppliers.

  • Continuously monitor nonconformities and the implementation of corrective actions.

  • Work in a professional manner and work to the highest standards.

  • Undertake all tasks to timescales agreed with the technical and Quality Manager, Deputise for the Technical and Quality Manager on quality issues.

Key Skills / Experience Required:

  • Quality Engineer from an aerospace engineering background

  • Previous supervisory experience is desirable but mentoring can be provided for the right candidate

  • NADCAP experience or knowledge required

The Package:

  • Starting salary of between £35-40k per annum

  • Onsite parking

  • Mon to Fri, 08.45 to 17.00

  • 30 days holiday entitlement
