Business Development Manager

The Role - Business Development Manager - Sub Contract Machining

The aim of the Business Development Manager is to provide a smooth interface between the customer and the company, to develop business relationships in order to provide sufficient opportunities to meet the company’s financial goals.

To work within the Sales team in the development of new and repeat sales for the subcontract machining business. Liaising with all customers that are allocated and to collate estimates and produce quotations on any opportunities that arise from that customer base. To actively seek out new customers that closely align to the competencies of the subcontract machining business. To help collate and monitor sales plans and forecasts based upon the goals set by the Management.

They have a proven track record in supplying high volume assembled and finished components for long term production schedules. Guaranteeing quality products delivered on time and in accordance with their customers needs. 

Key Duties

  • Develop a growth strategy focused both on financial gain and customer satisfaction
  • Conduct research to identify new markets and customer needs

  • Arrange business meetings with prospective clients

  • Promote the company’s capabilities / services addressing clients’ objectives

  • Prepare sales contracts ensuring adherence to law-established rules and guidelines

  • Provide trustworthy feedback and after sales support

  • Build long term relationships with new and existing customers

  • Use the SAGE MRP system to facilitate the input of Purchase orders or customer returns, and to find specific information on the database.

  • To collate estimates that fully encompass the supply of an opportunity, ensuring that the financial rewards from a successful bid are in line with the businesses expectations

  • Liaise with subcontractors and request quotations

  • Maintain a working knowledge of law-established rules and guidelines

Skills/ Qualifications Required

  • Proven working experience as a business development manager, sales executive or a relevant role with a proven sales track record

  • Proven ability to understand the complexities of prismatic machining/turning and sub-contract operations of a part.

  • To be able to comprehensively collate an estimate that fulfils the customers and businesses goals

  • Proficiency in MS Office and the capability to learn the use of new software, SAGE, CREO Parametric

  • Communication skills to be able to communicate face to face and in writing with a variety of audiences

  • Negotiation skills

  • Ability to build rapport

  • Good time management and planning skills

  • Able to work under pressure and to deadlines

Desirable Experience

  • Market knowledge within the sub-contract machining market, particularly Aerospace and Defence

  • BSc/BA in Business, sales or relevant field, a second European language

  • Evidence of Continuous Professional Development

This is a key position, supporting the development and implementation of their QMS systems Quality Engineering procedures and processes. You will be supported by a great team of engineers to work alongside suppliers to support the quality activities within the business.
 
What do you need to be successful in?
Ensure BMS is adhered to through implementation and administration of the Quality Management System in WMS 
Support the WMS Operations team to ensure products and processes comply with the relevant requirements of the QMS 
Creating and maintaining company quality documentation, such as manuals and procedures 
Preparation for and participation within internal, external and supplier audits 
Root cause analysis and implementation/co-ordination of corrective action for process/product related concerns 
Improve quality within the business unit through identification and implementation of continuous improvement activities 
Solve problems in a structured and appropriate manner e.g. 3C / 8D / DMAIC 
Conduct internal audits  as required 
Support supply chain and procurement with supplier evaluations, audits, and assessments 
 
 
 What experience will you need?
Hands -on experience of quality management within a manufacturing environment 
Strong understanding of and exposure to formal Quality management Systems within manufacturing environment 
Quality control of manufacturing processes through understanding of capability 
Experience a capability in problem solving techniques 
Special processes control experience, EDM, NDT and NPI an advantage
Experience of LEAN manufacturing techniques
Around 5-10 years of proven experience with a broad engineering background ideally gained in special purpose machinery/ Machine tools /turnkey engineering solutions or bespoke engineering machinery.

Precision is proud to be working with a bespoke machinery company based in the heart of the home counties.  They design and manufacture complex, automated machinery which is used in a variety of sectors.  They have defied the economic difficulties posed by Covid and have seen their export business grow considerably over the last 18months.  As a result, they are sending and receiving a greater number of components and shipping complete machines.  We are looking to recruit a stores person to help ensure the quality and accuracy of the stores function is maintained throughout this peak of work.
 
What the Role will involve:

  • Goods in – receiving components from couriers, checking of the documentation, and checking the quality to make sure there is no damage.
  • Booking in – taking the components, scanning them on to the SAP system, and then putting the part into its designated location in the stores.
  • Picking – Printing off daily picking lists, and picking the parts needed by the fitters for their machine build. Kitting the parts and delivering it to the relevant assembly bay.
  • Shipping – Sending spares to customers all over the world. Working with courier specific systems to send and track the delivery.  This could be anything from a small component to a complete machine.
  • Inventory Management – Ensuring stock levels are accurate to minimise delays on machine build. This could be spot checks, planned inventory and stock takes, and reporting the results.
 
What we are looking for in the Candidate:
  • An experienced Stores operator, ideally within a manufacturing or engineering environment.
  • Ideally a FLT licence, counterbalance or reach truck.
  • IT literate, and ideally experience with working with SAP – scanning, printing off picking lists etc etc.
  • We are looking for a pro-active person, someone not afraid to ask questions and who doesn’t need micro-managing!
