The Company

The business is one of Leicester's most established engineering companies, being in its 4th decade of growth that has always had design at the centre of its core. With three sites, 180 employees across six divisions it designs and manufactures its own products and also offers a design to manufacture service for many others.

The company has an established client base in a number of business sectors, winning substantial repeat business and large contracts from clients such as Jaguar Land Rover, Bentley, BAE Systems, Caterpillar and Alstom. Due to a restructure at board level, with growth of the business in mind, they now need an experienced Financial Director to join the team.

The Role

The FD will play a key role in developing, monitoring and evaluating the financial and operational strategy of the respective companies within the group. Working closely with the Chairman and respective Directors, the Financial Director will place specific emphasis on bottom line performance, working capital and delivering year on year organic growth. The Financial Director will interact effectively with all parts of the company, be viewed as a trusted advisor by all senior managers and drive a culture of accountability.

The first objective of this role is to lead the development and rollout of the existing ERP system to all areas of the business. You will be able to achieve this by leading a small team to establish the cost analysis in each business unit to deliver the management information the business needs to understand profitability. Working alongside the Managing Director and Technical Director, both of whom have been with the business 10 plus years, you will be focused on understanding the costs, margins and profits and be able to have a helicopter view on the financial needs, always looking for commercial opportunities to grow the business and strengthen existing divisions. You will also be leading the human resource function within the business, being in control of any employment or legal matters.

The Right Person

You will be a qualified accountant that is either looking for a step up into a director level role or an already experienced Financial Director. You will be a commercially aware and proactive man manager, holding integrity and ethics at the centre of all decisions. You will have a demonstrable track record of developing appropriate financial reporting and real-time control systems in an evolving company undergoing substantial growth with multiple revenue streams. You should have gained your core experience within a £5-30m manufacturing environment, and be able to engage with managers and staff at all levels.

You must have the experience of driving an ERP system within a manufacturing or engineering service environment. Having been through the implementation or embedding of an ERP system you will have previously been successful in guiding the business through the use of accurate data for profitability, identifying cost savings and opportunities for growth.

You will be ambitious, energetic, and enjoy delving into the detail to understand the multiple revenue streams of the businesses, understanding their levels of profitability and identifying and to support their needs as they grow. You will have the desire and ability to add value whilst also challenging colleagues in an effective and appropriate way to facilitate good decision-making. You will be willing to use your initiative and not be afraid to upset the status quo to bring tangible benefits to the business.

Ideally you will have had HR and Legal responsibilities and be able to bring additional processes and people based experiences to help managers retain and recruit.
